A filmic experience of the movement of animals and insects, or the time it takes to see them move.

We have so much in common and yet we look at each other with curiosity and suspicion. The world they live in seems so unfamiliar.

Humans have lived within nature, they’ve even manipulated it but yet I enter a territory that is not really mine; a place where I am being carefully observed and sensed. A place where I feel like the other, where they and I are separated. To them I am a predator.

At first they remained still, they hid, they ran away, they camouflaged themselves. So I had to be patient and wait. I had to listen carefully. I had to look attentively. I had to move thoughtfully.
I might have become animal again, discovering the unfamiliar.

I was hiding behind my camera. I was hunting for movement, a movement that you don’t always see but sense. This movement was guiding my camera like the camera directs the gaze.

Tout ça est parti d’une simple envie d’observer le mouvement des animaux et des insectes, et s’est transformée en la découverte d’un monde vivant à un autre rythme.

Les Hommes font partie de la nature. Certes ils l’ont manipulée et se la sont appropriée. Malgré ça, j’ai eu l’impression d’entrer dans un territoire inconnu, une terre sur laquelle j’étais attentivement observée. Le monde dans lequel ils vivent me parut si étrange. Pour eux, j’étais une prédatrice.

Nous avons tellement en commun et pourtant, nous nous regardions avec curiosité et suspicion. Ils restaient tout d’abord immobiles, cachés, prudents, et demeuraient invisibles à mon oeil en quête de matériel chorégraphique. Je ne voyais pas. Mon oeil vivait à une autre allure, et eux me fuyaient. J’ai dû être patiente, être immobile à mon tour. Je retenais
mon souffle. Je restais à l’écoute et me déplaçais avec contrôle et fluidité. Je (re)devenais animal. Je vivais à un autre rythme et me cachais derrière ma caméra. Je partais à la chasse au mouvement, un mouvement qui ne se voit pas toujours mais qui se sent. C’est ce mouvement qui guida ma caméra, tout comme la caméra dirige le regard.
